What to Expect in Spiritual Direction

Spiritual direction is a contemplative practice of noticing and responding to God’s presence in your real, everyday life. Our sessions create intentional space to slow down, listen, reflect, and discern together.

Below are some of the practical details and shared expectations that help create a safe, sustainable, and grounded direction relationship.

Training & Ethical Commitment

I hold an MA in Spiritual Formation and a certificate in spiritual direction from Portland Seminary. My commitment to ongoing growth includes monthly meetings with my own spiritual director, quarterly supervision, and continued education.

I am a member of Spiritual Directors International and the Evangelical Spiritual Directors Association and abide by their ethical guidelines and standards of conduct.

Focus of Our Sessions

Spiritual direction sessions center on the material or questions you bring. Together, we pay attention to your life in God’s presence — noticing invitations, questions, patterns, desires, resistance, consolation, and struggle.

Spiritual direction is not advice-giving, fixing, or performance coaching. Ultimately, God is the true director in our time together.

Meeting Formats

Spiritual direction is available virtually for all directees and in-person for women.

In-Person Sessions

In-person meetings are typically held in my home office in Springfield, Missouri.

Virtual Sessions

Virtual sessions are hosted via Zoom, with scheduling and reminders managed through Calendly.

Scheduling & Cancellation

Sessions are typically one hour in length.

Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling requests. Sessions canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice are charged the full session fee.

If you need scheduling flexibility beyond my public Calendly availability, you are always welcome to reach out directly.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality is foundational to spiritual direction. What you share in sessions is held with care and privacy.

There are two limited exceptions:

  • situations involving concerns for your safety or the safety of others
  • professional supervision, where I may discuss aspects of sessions confidentially without identifying information in order to maintain ethical and effective care

Referrals & Scope of Practice

Spiritual direction is not therapy, crisis care, legal advisement, or financial counseling.

At times, additional support from another professional may be appropriate. If so, I may recommend outside resources or referrals while continuing to support your spiritual formation as appropriate.

Fees & Accessibility

Spiritual direction sessions are approximately one hour. I use a tiered pricing structure designed to support both accessibility and sustainability.

Current Rates

  • Extra-Supported Rate: $65
  • Supported Rate: $80
  • Standard Rate: $100
  • Sustaining Rate: $125

You are invited to choose the rate that best reflects your current financial reality. No proof or explanation is required.

A limited number of scholarship spaces are also available.

Payment Structure

Because spiritual direction is relational and works best with consistency over time, my preference is for directees to commit to an ongoing rhythm of sessions through either a 6-month or 12-month automated payment plan.

Month-to-month scheduling is also available for those discerning fit or needing greater flexibility.

Ending Spiritual Direction

Spiritual direction relationships naturally shift and change over time. You are always free to discontinue direction at any point, though I do request a brief closing conversation whenever possible.

Likewise, there may be seasons when another form of support or a different director would be more beneficial. Open communication and discernment remain important throughout the process.

Questions?

If you have questions about spiritual direction, scheduling, pricing, or discernment around whether this would be a good fit for your season, I’d be glad to talk with you.
